Often referred to as “the Female Schindler,” Irena Sendler and her network of young female accomplices rescued thousands of Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto. As a social worker she was allowed into the ghetto to help combat disease, then quickly created an elaborate scheme that successfully saved the lives of over 2,500 children.
