Twenty years ago I started The Amateur Gourmet as a way to capture my culinary education. I grew up on Long Island and then Boca Raton, FL in a household where nobody cooked. Don’t get me wrong: we lovvvved food and eating, we just always went out to restaurants or brought home takeout.

The Amateur Gourmet, or Adam Roberts, is an American food and humor writer. Roberts, born in 1979, started The Amateur Gourmet while a frustrated law student in Atlanta in 2004. Roberts moved to New York in 2005, and published a book based on his blog in 2007.

In 2004, Adam Roberts started The Amateur Gourmet, and became one of “the greatest food bloggers of all time.” The blog was known for its whimsical, unpretentious approach to food and cooking, and led to Roberts’s first book, The Amateur Gourmet: How to Chop, Shop, and Tablehop Like a Pro (Almost) which came out in August 2007.
