Jan Nisar Akhtar (18 February 1914 – 19 August 1976) was an Indian poet of Urdu ghazals and nazms, and a part of the Progressive Writers' Movement, who was also a lyricist for Bollywood.
Jaan Nisar Akhtar has made a distinguished mark as a romantic and revolutionary poet. He was born in 1914 in Gwalior, where his father was posted, in service. His native village was Khairabad. His father Muztar Khairabadi was also a reputed shayar.
