Greg 'Curly' Keranen is a bassist and guitarist, who sometimes performs under the stage name, João Dilberto. Keranen was a founding member of the band The Rubinoos who made their first recordings for Beserkley Records in 1974, during which time, they backed Jonathan Richman on his first recordings for the label.
Other founding members included Greg 'Curly' Keranen, Alex Carlin, Ralph Granich and Danny Wood. Inspired by siblings' 45s and the Cruisin' vintage radio recreations LP series, Jon Rubin and the Rubinoos played rock and roll oldies.

In early 1976, Richman put together a new version of The Modern Lovers, with Leroy Radcliffe (guitar), Greg 'Curly' Keranen (bass) and the returning David Robinson (drums). Keranen had previously played with The Rubinoos, and Radcliffe with Woody's Truckstop.
Apr 4, 2007 · Thanks to Bob, I managed to contact Greg “Curly” Keranen who must be the ultimate Modern Lover, the musician whose collaboration with Jonathan has lasted the longest time, though Tom Larkins must be close. He is still involved in Jonathan's projects today and they are close friends.
