This wonderfully warm film presents the flipside view to the Swinging Sixties dream as it fades into the Sour Seventies and features a superb performance from Peter Sellers out of his comfort zone as Sam, a former music hall entertainer facing the trials and tribulations of getting old.
"The Optimists" was a box office disaster when it was released to theaters in 1973, and has all but been forgotten since despite the presence of Peter Sellers. It's a real shame, because it is an absolutely charming movie.
