Sep 6, 2007 · Roger Ebert praises the atmosphere and obsession of Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige", a film about two rival magicians in Victorian London. He criticizes the plot for cheating the audience with an implausible twist that violates the rules of magic.
The Prestige begins with shots of several dozen top hats inexplicably strewn about in a forest. Cutter (Michael Caine), in voiceover, explains the three parts of a magic trick while performing a disappearing bird trick for a little girl.
