Slip and Sach work as runners for a New York brokerage firm owned by David J. Thurston, whose daughter, Carol Thurston, is romantically involved with Gabe Moreno, currently a crusading television producer. A coroner rules David's sudden death a suicide, which Slip doesn't buy into.
