Louis Gruenberg (/ ˈ ɡ r uː ən b ɜːr ɡ / GROO-ən-burg; August 3 1884 [O.S. July 22] – June 10, 1964) was a Russian-born American pianist and prolific composer, especially of operas. An early champion of Schoenberg and other contemporary composers, he was also a highly respected Oscar-nominated film composer in Hollywood in the 1940s.

Jun 11, 2018 · GRUENBERG, LOUIS (1884–1964), U.S. composer. Born in Poland, near Brest Litovsk, Gruenberg was taken to the U.S. at the age of two. He studied in Berlin with Busoni, and made his debut as a pianist in 1912 at a concert of the Berlin Philharmonic, under Busoni's baton.
GRUENBERG, Louis. He was taken to the USA at the age of two. At nineteen he went to Berlin to study with Busoni and Koch, and in 1912 was appointed teacher at the Vienna Conservatory. In 1919 he abandoned performing as a pianist and concentrated on composition.
