Raymond George Alfred Cooney OBE (born 30 May 1932) is an English playwright, actor, and director. His biggest success, Run for Your Wife (1983), ran for nine years in London's West End and is its longest-running comedy. He has had 17 of his plays performed there.
Biography. Ray Cooney is today recognised theatrically and publicly as ‘THE MASTER OF FARCE’ and a most worthy successor as an author to the great Ben Travers, and as a director/actor to Brian Rix.
In 1983, he formed the Theatre of Comedy at the Shaftesbury Theatre and became its first Artistic Director. In February 2013, the film of his most successful play RUN FOR YOUR WIFE, directed by Ray, had its world premier in Leicester Square and has now come out on DVD.
Ray Cooney is a British comedy playwright and actor, known for Run for Your Wife, Not Now Darling and Not Now, Comrade. He was born in 1932 in London and made an O.B.E. in 2005 for services to drama.
