The recording of 1993’s Pop Smear did nothing to slow the momentum of the young band, leading to their signing a deal with RCA, a label that saw the Verve Pipe as its ticket to the top of the alt-rock charts.
Brian had a role in the 2001 movie Rock Star, playing the bass player in Mark Wahlberg's band, Blood Pollution. The film culminates with Wahlberg miming the Verve Pipe song "Colorful" as he reconciles with Jennifer Aniston. It's a little strange hearing Vander Ark's voice coming out of Wahlberg, but the song works well in the scene.
