Instead of a basketball it features the silhouette of a man dribbling a basketball. The colors changed to red, white, and blue to reflect a more patriotic emblem.

Nov 16, 2018 · In 1969, nine years into his Hall of Fame career, designer Alan Siegel used a model of West dribbling the basketball to make the white silhouette shadow in a blue and red background.
Mar 10, 2024 · 1984 saw the team’s first logo redesign. The new design featured a stylized wordmark spelling “CAVS”, with the letter “V” made to look like a basketball net. A red ball was added over it, depicting a basket being scored. In 1995, the team again changed their logo.
Few of these logos survive in the basketball world as most basketball teams have either changed their logos or did not exist in the early days. However, these more spartan logos can still be seen in the NFL and MLB – for example look at the NFL's Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.
