He was a Sandhurst lecturer when I knew him (he's probably remembered by many of the former officers on this site) and he and I chivvied each other over the hills on a T&AVR selection course; we both made it to the end.
27-year-old Michael Robert Ryan, an unemployed labourer, was the bloke who decided to liven up the sleepy Berkshire town of Hungerford on the afternoon of August 19th 1987. At time of the shooting, Ryan lived alone with his mother who worked as a dinner lady at the local primary school. The resulting massacre was entirely her fault.
