Jawed Karim (born October 28, 1979) is an American software engineer and Internet entrepreneur. He is a co-founder of YouTube and the first person to upload a video to the site. The site's inaugural video, "Me at the zoo", uploaded on April 23, 2005, has been viewed over 325 million times as of June 22, 2024.
The 19-second video features YouTube's co-founder, Jawed Karim, who was 25 years old at the time, in front of two elephants at the San Diego Zoo in California, noting their long trunks. It was recorded on Karim's camera by his high school friend, Yakov Lapitsky.
