(From their oficial website ) I've been using GitHub Desktop application since I started on GitHub and I haven't seen many other developers using/commenting about it (Tbh, I can't even remember the last time I saw a developer using it), and that's what motivated me to create this post.
On a daily basis I’ll use a combination of GitHub desktop, vscode extension, and cli. I really like aspects of all three! Having git in my editor is nice for comparing stuff between commits. Out of old habits I like using GitHub desktop GUI for pushing, pulling, committing, you name it. Sometimes GUI doesn’t do what I need sooooo go to cli.
Github is a company that provides git repository hosting (and project management, and CI/CD, and ai code gen) services. Git IS a command line tool for version control management. Jan 2, 2021 · The github desktop account seems only to allow or track two accounts. A github.com account and a github enterprise account. What if you have multiple github enterprise servers? It seems odd, given the versatility of github, to only support two accounts in the app.
I used the GitHub Desktop app for a long time in college because there were few classes that really forced me to use Git in a way that required merging, resolving conflicts, separate development branches etc. I will tell you that the absolute easiest tool to use (IMO) is the git source control extension in VSCode.
Yeah, the github Account of one of the dev team was hacked, changing some links to download a RAT/Virus instead of the original binaries and installers (As project discord says: If you downloaded the application between March 3, 2024 7:00 AM and March 3, 2024 2:00 PM RUN A VIRUS SCAN AS SOON AS POSIBLE!).
