Comic Relief is a British charity, founded in 1985 by the comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis and comedian Sir Lenny Henry in response to the famine in Ethiopia. The concept of Comic Relief was to get British comedians to make the public laugh, while raising money to help people around the world and in the United Kingdom.

In 2023 we’re focussing our attention on supporting the following key areas: Alleviating poverty’s consequences and grip on people’s daily lives.
Our funding approach is based on four important priorities: 1. Equity, diversity and inclusion. We invest in organisations led by and for communities experiencing inequity, exclusion and discrimination and use learning and storytelling to help drive justice. 2. Participation and lived experience.
What your money does. We support local community organisations and brilliant change-makers here in the UK and across the globe. Your donations help us fill the shelves of baby banks, community food centres, fund vital community-led services like health workers, local youth safe-spaces, and ensure safe passage for people escaping danger.
