The building of Glasgow Cathedral began in 1136 and took about 350 years to finish. The cathedral was dedicated to St Kentigern (or St Mungo), a Christian missionary in the area during the 6 th century AD.
Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. Sunday, 1pm to 4pm. Last entry 3pm. The cathedral may close for lunch from 12pm to 1pm. If you plan to visit at this time, please call ahead to check 0141 552 6891. The Historic Environment Scotland Shop is open when the Cathedral is open to the public.
Erected between AD 1136 and 1484, Glasgow Cathedral is now Scotland’s largest place of worship. Its history reflects contrasting Christian identities. The site was an ancient pilgrimage destination containing the tomb of the 6th-century Celtic missionary to Strathclyde, St Kentigern (or Mungo).
At the Cathedral, we experience organ, choral, vocal and instrumental music from many historic periods and cultures, including contemporary music. These selections reflect our diverse community even as they honour the rich traditions and heritage of this historic church.

Glasgow Cathedral Choir. sings for our weekly Sunday morning worship, performing an introit, anthem and offertory, and leading the congregation in the hymns. The choir is a professional ensemble, composed of eight trained voices.

The Society of Friends of Glasgow Cathedral was founded in 1936 by the Very Rev Dr Nevile Davidson and brings together people who are passionate about preserving the Cathedral for future generations. It is a non-denominational organisation run by volunteers.
