Connelly was a journalist in Pittsburgh early in his career and went on to be a playwright who is most famous for his Pulitzer Prize winning play The Green Pastures in 1930.
U.S. dramatist Marc Connelly was known for collaborating on several comedies with George S. Kaufman. On his own, he is perhaps best remembered for Green Pastures (1930), a folk version of the Old Testament dramatized through the lives of blacks of the southern United States. Marcus Cook Connelly was born on Dec. 13, 1890, in McKeesport, Pa.
