Goldenthal's first opera, Grendel is a retelling of the epic tale of Beowulf told from the point of view of the monster Grendel. Elliot Goldenthal (born May 2, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York City) is an American composer of modern classical music. He was a student of Aaron Copland and John Corigliano . Goldenthal is best known for his ability to blend different musical styles and techniques in original and inventive ways.
Elliot Goldenthal was born in Brooklyn, New York, in May 1954 and, as a child, studied piano. His interests included jazz and rock, and once he reached his teenage years, he played piano and trumpet and also sang in a touring blues band. He composed a ballet at age 14 that was given a full performance at his high school.
