Although he differs from the ideology of Italian-American filmmakers of the generation following his time, such as Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppolla, Capra chose to not identify himself with his Italian roots.[15]

Born in Bisacquino, Italy and raised in Los Angeles from the age of five, his rags-to-riches story has led film historians such as Ian Freer to consider him the “ American Dream personified.”
