moreThe Old Church is an arts and performance space in the heart of Stoke Newington, and the only surviving Elizabethan church in London, dating back to 1563. The Old Church hosts a wide variety of music, art, dance, and performance events, and a donation-only family art session once a month on a Saturday. The building is only open for events and once a month on a Saturday for open morning. Our graveyard contains monuments to people who were prominent in the fight against the slave trade. James Stephen (William Wilberforceโs brother-in-law and a chief adviser on the anti-slavery bill) lies in the south-eastern part of the churchyard. William Wilberforceโs sister and daughter are also both buried here. Other tombs include those of: Anna Barbauld, John Dudley and some of the descendants of Charles Fleetwood, Oliver Cromwellโs son-in- law, who lived in Fleetwood House in Church Street.less
