moreKendal Hostel is an attractive Georgian townhouse (which is over 300 years old) in the historic market town of Kendal. The hostel is situated in front of the well known Brewery Arts Centre with the front of the hostel leading onto Highgate that is only 300 yards from Kendal town centre. Kendal hostel has 13 rooms available that can cater for individuals, groups, couples and Families as well as the hostel being available to hire for private use and functions. These 13 rooms can accommodate up to 65 guests per night and they range from 2-12 guests per room. Some of our rooms include double beds and also private bathrooms. As the Hostel is self catering guests are welcome to use the kitchen, living room, dining room and also wash facilities and drying room. We also have a secure bike shed that guests are welcome to use free of charge. Breakfast is available at the hostel. We have 2 options for breakfast; Our Simple Breakfast (Light Option) includes Cereals, Bread, Jams and Preserves, Fruit, Fruit Juice, Tea and Coffee for £3.00 pp (available everyday) and our Full Breakfast Option includes all of the above plus a cooked English breakfast for £6.00 pp (available on request or by prior arrangement. Due to our town centre location there is plenty of different options for eating out including English Food, Chinese, Italian, Indian, Thai and so on but if you prefer we also have a Tesco express just a few mins walk away which is open till 23.00 pm daily. Getting around the Lake District The hostel is very easily accessible by public transport. Kendal has its own train station which is around 15 min walk from the hostel and we also have Oxenholme The Lake District train station which is around 25 min walk to the hostel but only 5 min train ride from Kendal train station or there is also a bus available (41/41A). We are also accessible by car as Junction 36 of the M6 motorway is only 8 miles from the hostel so ideal for guests who are travelling to and from Scotland. The National Express bus also stops in Kendal on a daily basis and is only 10 min walk from the hostel As the hostel is situated on the edge of the Lake District, we have excellent transport links to and from the popular destinations of Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and also Keswick. The 555 bus runs every 30 mins during the day (Summer timetable, Hourly in Winter) from Kendal to these places and one of the best ways to explore the Lake District is by the bus as the train terminates its journey at Windermere. The Explorer Daily tickets are the best value at £11.50 pp for unlimited travel for the day from 05.45am to 23.45pm. Family, Group, 3 day (£26.00) and 7 day (£29.00) passes are also available for those who are staying longer. Parking Unfortunately, due to our town centre we do not have parking at the hostel. The closest car park is the Brewery Arts Centre car park behind the hostel (left turning after the Mint Works off Highgate). They offer parking from £1.20 per hour but you can purchase a ticket for 24 hours for £7.00. Please note this machine only takes coins. On street parking is available within a few minute’s walk from the hostel which is free from 5pm in the evenings to 9am in the morning. Local council car parks are available within a few minutes’ walk of the hostel. These car parks charge during the day, per hour (£1.20) but are free overnight from 6pm to 8am in the mornings. These car parks offer; 3 days parking (for £15.00) and 7 day parking (for £30.00). These passes can also be used in the following areas; Ambleside (King Street, Lake Road, Low Fold and Rydal Road Bowness on Windermere (Braithwaite Fold, Ferry Nab, Rayrigg Road, Quarry Mount and Glebe Road) Grange-Over-Sands (Hampsfell Road, Kents Bank Road, Main Street and Windermere Road) Grasmere (Red Bank Road) Kendal (Blackhall Road, Dowker Lane, Highgate/Bowman, Library Road, Peppercorn Lane, Sands Avenue and South Lakeland House Check in from 16.00pm to 20.30pm. (check in later than 20:30 can be prearranged by contacting the hostel). We also have late arrival access for guests and instructions are generally sent by email. Check out from the room is 10.00am but we allow guests to stay around the hostel after this time. There is no curfew at the hostel and our front door is locked around 21.00pm but access is available 24 hours a day via a door code system. Please be aware that we do have a resident cat at the hostel who is called 'Ginger George' (a picture of George can be found in our photos). We seem to find most guests appreciate the cat, especially those who are away from home and looking for creature comfort. The cat is very independent and very happy to stay away from guests who may be allergic or not keen on him. George is not allowed in the guest bedrooms. We are also dog friendly in the hostel and if you do wish to bring your four legged friend please just let us know so we can be sure to provide you a pet friendly room. Please do not book a shared room if you wish to bring your pet as we can not allowed pets in shared rooms, pets can only stay on rooms solely occupied by your group only.
