moreOPEN SATURDAY 11am-3pm, SUNDAY 11-3pm (Weather Permitting) LAST ENTRY 2pm. Children get free entry and must be supervised by an adult at all times. Montrose was Great Britain’s first operational military airfield, established by the Royal Flying Corps in February 1913. The museum aims to show the human side of the Air Station's past with a collection of contemporary photographs, artefacts and memorabilia. These not only tell of the history of the airfield but also the story of those who served here and those who lived in the area. It is an independent, accredited museum run entirely by volunteers. Aircraft include a Panavia Tornado GR4, SEPECAT Jaguar GR1, Hawker Hunter F1, Gloster Meteor and a de Havilland Sea Vampire. There is also a full-size replica Supermarine Spitfire MkVb and our volunteers have built amazing full-size replicas of a WWI B.E.2a and a Sopwith Camel, the only ones in Scotland.less
